Random Game photos from Canadian Open weekend

As is usual the weekend of the Canadian Open, a lot of buddies crash at my place and Friday/Saturday night are given over to playing other board and card games.  In addition to the below we also played some Dominion and lots of the Resistance.
Castles of Mad King Ludwig
Was happy to get a run out for my Space Hulk set.  Playing with fully painted figs really makes it a gorgeous game. We had a player each for the terminator squads and two guys play genestealers.

Finally got a game of deadzone in against Dan who pledged into the kickstarter but hasn't had a game yet. He played enforcers with some proxy marines of mine and I played with my painted marauders.

He caught onto the rules pretty quick (those short/long action flowcharts really help) and due to some epic poor rolling from my goblin sniper (3 successes on 9 dice! TWICE) and a mistake I made with my mawbeast (not enraged before attacking) I lost the chance to really hurt his team, and once he figured out the differences between shoot and blaze he was much more effective in his decisions - he smoked me 11VP or something to 0.

Hope you enjoy the photos.  This is one of my favourite parts about the tournament as I get to play a bunch of games as well :)

Space Hulk - suicide mission!

Been doing pretty well on the gaming front recently.  From some Talisman & Citadels in December to even getting a game of 40K and now Space Hulk in.  My brother came over last night and we each took a turn as the terminators on the first Space Hulk mission.  Didn't mess with timers this time around, I need to get that Space Hulk app re-installed on my phone.  I didn't take enough pics for a proper battle report - we were just getting used to the rules again anyways.  A couple nice snaps below.

Here is the best pic I got from this angle - the original and then I did some quick editing using the google+ photo editor to try and make the second a bit more interesting, by focusing on the marines/keeping them sharp while making the genestealers a bit fuzzy.  Also used a filter called "Moody"

This was the only pic I got from this angle - thankfully it turn out OK.  I like the "tunnel" view of proceedings, and tried to do the opposite of the first, keeping the genestealers clear & sharp and making the terminators look blurry.  I used some filters too "Dark 2" or something like that.  They look pretty good for 30 seconds of editing!

I hope to play this game much more this year.  It's pretty quick to setup and now that I have both sides painted up (neither by me I will mention) it just looks fantastic.

even more Space Hulk Terminator goodness...

Here is one of several things I've had on the go in the past little while.  These will get sent along to Ricalope to get painted up along with the 2 dreadnoughts I'd posted previously and 6 more jump pack death company.  That will fill up a KR multicase box (1 of 3 planned) and will hopefully mean I get these guys back this year.

These 3 will round out the 2 painted "assault" terminators to give me a full squad.

Here's my cyclone missile launcher conversion, so I have all heavy options.  He can easily proxy as either an additional heavy flamer or assault cannon in Space Hulk.

I decided to build this guy as a captain for Space Hulk purposes. He's armed with storm bolter, power fist, power sword and an auxiliary grenade launcher.  I gave him the iron halo and some extra detailing as well to make him look special.

Here's my chaplain conversion.  I wanted one of every character type in terminator armour and basing them on Space Hulk terminators would ensure they fit in well.  His crozius arcanum is from an old dreadnought banner pole.

Finally the sanguinary priest, armed with a power sword and with a narthecium conversion based on the chainfist model.  I added a small screw bit, as well as using some metal pieces to fill in a tube from the rhino smoke launchers to create a needle.

and they will be joining their brethren soon...  can't wait to have my Space Hulk termies back to play some games!  Had a game recently against my brother and filled in with some Novamarines but am really looking forward to playing with these guys.

Space Hulk bugs for sale

I picked up an extra copy of Space Hulk recently to bulk up my Flesh Tearers terminators. I've sold the librarian and a 5 man squad already. Had no nibbles on bartertown though so I've put the 'stealers and broodlord up on eBay.

Had to relist the items as apparently the image I stole from google was of a resin copy!  Sorry to anyone who was watching the previous auctions!

a bunch of Flesh Tearers commission updates

Well, even though I haven't had time to post about it - that doesn't mean that Ric hasn't been hard at work!

Three updates have gone by since my last post about the terminators - time to pimp them a bit!  I have just included a single pic, but each "heading" is a link to his full blog post with multiple pics.

Deathwatch Apothecary
powerfist/standard apothecary backpack configuration
This guy comes with four different right arms (so far!); chain axe, hand flamer, infernus pistol, power fist and both a normal apothecary backpack and a jump pack.  This is beneficial both for my Flesh Tearers army and for games of Deathwatch (which we are supposed to do not this weekend or the next but the one after!)

Space Hulk Dead Terminator on Throne objective
I get the feelin Ric was bored this day ;)
For my Space Hulk objectives I mounted them all on square bases.  I also glued a magnet onto the arm of the  throne so the magnet in the cup would allow the cup to stick to this objective.

Completed Assault Squad (with meltaguns!)
now with 2 meltaguns!
The original five were the first things Ric painted, and just had 4 bolt pistol/ccw marines plus the power fist sergeant - now they are ready to blow up a vehicle first and then tear the occupants to shreds! The hazard stripes really make these guys pop!

Huge thanks to Ric!  He has shipped over the deathwatch apothecary so I can use him for RPGs, but the rest he's going to hold off shipping until we have found/purchased and settled in a house!  He plans to work on a Land Raider: Crusader next - looking forward to it!!!

Space Hulk - first "squad" done

Well, due to finishing up a couple Space Shark rhino chassis over the weekend I don't feel too bad about Ric pumping out ANOTHER Flesh Tearers update. The latest two include a standard tactical terminator and the assault cannon armed heavy as well.  This is the third terminator update, the first one had a single terminator, the second had the thunder hammer/storm shield and the chainfist. However I would definitely recommend you check out Rics update because...
love the attention to detail - like the gem in the middle of his chest aquila
He's recently built himself a nice lightbox, so his pictures are much nicer and how off a lot more detail.  I'm not sure I would've been able to see the faded hazard stripes he put on these bases (which I think will blend in perfectly with the champs industries bases used for the guys in power armour)
this guy looks badass, check out the faded hazard stripes on the base!
As usual the OSL on all the power weapons is fantastic and I love the attention to detail, these guys are shaping up great, Ric has already received the second box of stuff from me (death company, a second LR Crusader and the rest of the assault squad) and I hope to get him a final box a bit later this year.

Space Hulk Terminators update

OK here's a nice healthy update with lots of pics - I admit the pics aren't the greatest and are just a single shot of each guy facing you so sometimes the details are hidden, but I promise once these guys are painted (not by me, similar to the Genestealers I'm going to find someone to paint my Flesh Tearers - I have too much backed up to be painted already and want them ready now!) I will take proper photos with multiple angles to really show them off.  They have all had a Flesh Tearers brass etch symbol on their shoulderpads and other pieces from the fw brass etch sheet are on there as well.  For their bases I have added detail on parts of the base but left the rest bare, mostly to make it easy for putting the bases on and off (oh wait did you think they weren't magnetized - hahahhaha) so I'm hoping that with the right kind of paint job, it can seem as if the area around the model is really dark & gloomy.  That's the dream anyways!  I even made some magnetized bases for the C.A.T. and Chalice. Comments and criticism welcome.

Let's start with the heavies shall we?

Space Hulk Terminators - magnetizing for 40mm bases

Here's a post for the Herald of Discord at Weekly Minis. He's been converting and painting up a set of his Space Hulk Terminators in death company colours and we began discussing basing them. I'm also converting mine (as I don't want them to look the same as everyone elses) mine will be painted up as Flesh Tearers.

First here's the first model I prepped. You can see that some blood angels iconography has been removed. Where there was space around a blood drop to paint a saw blade I left the blood drop - otherwise they were removed.
First I drilled holes for magnets in the model's "space hulk" base. I used blu-tac to hold the model to the 40mm base and used the holes in the 40mm base as guides to make sure they ended up exactly placed. Then I glued magnets into the 40mm base. I then built up the base (depending on the "space hulk" base for the model - for example the librarian is coming down steps so I just wanted the rest of the 40mm to be flat)Finally here he is, attached to his base.

Same pics for the second model.

My first commission...

... purchased. HA! I don't have enough hobby time for me, let alone anyone else.

For that reason, I've started farming out little projects. I've got a blood bowl team with a friend I met at Two Headed Dragon, and I also wanted to get my Space Hulk stuff done. I just got the genestealers back from the painter and I quite like them. They've motivated me to get to work on the terminators, as I'm converting them somewhat (remove some BA icons, GS) so I can have them painted up as Flesh Tearers. More on this soon. Should've said more on this much, much later.

For now I have some pics of my genestealers, hope you like them.
