new necromunda photos + deadzone rebs proxies

I've been updating my GWpertinent forces pages with new pics. I am still working on a large album for my Novamarines as I want them well documented before I sell or trade them off. Other than that I have mostly focused on necromunda stuff since they have low model count and usually I don't have many gang pictures.

I've also recently been trying to figure out what I can use to proxy a Rebs faction in deadzone until I get the actual figures assembled.

Here's the limited edition Bonnie Annerson bounty hunter...  a few shots so you can see the mask. Not sure what made me paint the mask that way, and I definitely wish I hadn't done so many funky colours on her pistol, but I do still love the base with it's sewing pin mushrooms and green ooze. She could easily stand in for the Rebs leader.

I recently updated my Spyrers page with a slew of new pics. I can easily use the Yelds as Kraaw warriors and was thinking the Orrus would be suitable as Grogans - would probably need to pick one weapon type per game to not be confusing.

I've also updated my Escher gang page with some photos. Gangers with basic rifle weapons can easily be human rebs. I can't imagine using that many humans that these six gangers wouldn't be enough.

Finally I've got some spore mines I painted up a while ago to use along with some expanded Wyrd rules by Anthony Case as Lashoaters - I could see these counting as drones pretty easily.

Unfortunately for me, I haven't collected a lot of alien type figures so my rebs gang would be pretty bland - currently I'd look at a LOTR troll as a Teraton but not sure I can bring myself to do that! Anyways would be enough to have a game and get a feel for their battle cards deck and some missions at least.

2009 tidbits pt1

A few pics for you of the models I finished up last year but haven't taken pics of yet.

first up i'll do the underhive scum. he's been around forever primed black but forgotten. had always planned to keep most of his clothing black (the first matrix movie had recently came out) so it was only when i decided to try out a technique for black that i gave him a go. it's basically a grey drybrush over black followed by multiple coats of badab black wash. the lighter the grey the sharper the highlight, but multiple washes really smooths the tone. in the end i wanted to give this guy as many cheesy cliches as i could; so his face is horribly scarred and he carry's two gold plated bolt pistols. finally i decided i would give him a light wash of the wood stain, which worked really well and makes him look all dusty.

next up is a couple minis my brother had actually finished painting before i ended up with all his wargaming stuff. they were pretty clean but mostly just basecoats, so i decided to work my way through any painted stuff i have (not painted by me) and decide to strip or not. these two ended up in the "not" category, both needed a few minutes to touch them up and they i gave them both a light wash of wood stain, a coat of dullcote and they look amazing for next to no effort. one is a telekinetic wyrd, the other is a goliath juve. i changed the colour of the juves pants to grey so he would match my genestealer cult models a bit more.

and finally, a couple necromundan giant rats. these suckers had started to crop up through event cards in our games, so i decided i needed them painted. took no time at all either.

first painting point for 2010

A pyromaniac wyrd for necromunda. I've joined a bunch of local guys at a blog called Weekly Minis. We're going to attempt to fully paint at least one model per week, this is my week 1 complete, I'm already noticing an increase in motivation. I'm going to attempt to specifically paint each weekly model as a one off, so this will be on top of my other painting goals.

random necro pic - Wyrd Telepath

Here's another of my old necromunda models. He was painted years ago in my first phase of wargaming. I've given him a coat of varnish and hopefully he will get some use in the near future. (I'm itching to try out the wyrd coven gang Anthony Case has created!)

I had my buddy Mike over for some more necromunda action today. I rolled with a new gang - Escher. We had a couple games - a proper gang fight where we beat the crap out of each other and we tried a new scenario from Anthony Case called Package Run, where I fooled Mike into who was carrying the actual package - but he managed to scrag all my models (we each had four after rolling for number of troops) to no losses. A strong victory for Mike's Delaque.

I took a bunch of pics and notes so will get a batrep up soon.

random necro pic - 'Scummer' Berbe

I've recently started seriously looking at any painted models I have from my first foray into GW more than a dozen years ago. I have some models which I really don't see myself ever re-painting completely - so I've been trying to see if I can get them somewhere I'm happy with and be done with it. Some of the mordheim lizardmen and bonnie annerson are two examples (lizzies painted by my bro). On top of that I have some painted models that I ended up with in bulk deals through craigslist or similar (likely on deck... old school 40K assassin).

Here's another of my brothers, a necromunda "underhive scum" wielding a plasma pistol. He was painted quite well, very neat and even a bit of blending on the pistol. It definitely didn't scream finished though, so I took some of my wood stain dip, mixed in some water to keep it nice and thin and gave the whole model a wash. Then I gave it a shot of testors dullcote to get rid of the gloss. He looks perfectly scummy now - and I hope to get a chance to include him in future games.
I'm going to try to document all my other painted stuff that hasn't shown up in the blog yet. I have a Wyrd Telepath I painted that I've already got varnished, a Wyrd Telekinetic my brother painted that just needs a bit of touch ups + the watered down dip treatment that I'm thinking of getting done.

Eventually I plan to put together some numbers for total models painted per game.

ps. Thanks to Mik for naming him :)

random stuff

Well I've had a look through and the pics from the last necromunda game from last weekend aren't really worth putting together. There's a bunch of the same pic as Norah my jakara stood around while Mike's gang moved into position. He managed to free his captured leader and my Spyrers bottled. Here's a pic of Norah standing guard over his leader after my deployment (I had about 4 pics of this from various angles and not much else).

Next up is some work I've been doing on getting my Vindicator bits magnetized and ready to be undercoated. I have the hobby room this weekend but forgot to stock up on paint so getting them primed will probably be delayed.

Finally, I figured I should get this model varnished to protect her, as she is fully painted (trying to get all my painted stuff protected) - it's the limited edition Bonnie Annerson bounty hunter from Necromunda. I won her at a necro tournament in the first GW Toronto (when it was on Queen St.)
