Sentinel Squadron - what to do?

Well something a little off the beaten path today - I've had this squadron of sentinels for a while now, they came in a big batch of IG/SOB that I've pretty much traded/sold the rest away.  I've kept these guys as I'd envisioned using them as part of a small arbites 40K army (large arbites necromunda gang???)

With our plans to sell our current condo to buy a larger house, I'm currently packing away anything I know won't be used in the next 6 months or so.  Then I got to these bad boys.  It didn't take much work on my part to fix them up to the current (next tabletop worthy) condition, some decals and re-paint is about it.  They need their bases re-done as well.

1st squadron - armed w multi-lasers

My quandary is what to do with them?  To be honest I started to prefer a different colour for the arbites than all black (I particularly like a P3 paint called coal black and am thinking of using that for body armour and a white helmet scheme).  These guys would be too difficult to fix up to that standard.  I am debating between selling/trading them, or putting them up on ebay but with proceeds going to a charity - since the paint job is really pretty basic and I don't expect people would value them much - EXCEPT perhaps if the money was going to charity.  Let me know what you guys think - would you put in a decent bid on ebay for these guys knowing the money was going to a good cause?

We are entering the final few days of the incredible "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project. What these folks have accomplished in such a short space of time is simply unbelievable.  I fully expect they will blow the Storm Wardens result out of the water and though it's probably unlikely I would not be THAT surprised if the donation amount entered six digits.

Bolter & Chainsword has apparently been huge in terms of getting news about the project out there, it sounds like they have done an incredible job helping the HoA team with not just donations but the little things like telling your hobby crew and posting flyers in hobby stores.

Some of the prizes from B&C are really cool (the Blood Angels dice - WOW).  Definitely worthy of the $20/week donation I have been sticking to so far!

So a huge thanks should go to the guys like Kurgan who have put effort into making this charity project the best yet.  How appropriate would it be for one of their members to win the Blood Angels army (in no way insinuating this is the works - just the coincidence that it's a power armour only forum would make it quite apropos!)

Now we come to the meat & potatoes.  The driving factor behind all the donations and effort involved.  The armies themselves are pretty much the coolest thing ever.  For those going to Games Day please take plenty of photos of all the armies together on the amazing board created by Brian @ A Gentleman's Ones. There are massive combined pictures of all the armies available and each army has it's own page on the "Heroes of Armageddon" blog with more detailed photos.  I encourage all of you to check them out.  For this I am doubling up and donating an extra $20 this week to round out my donation to $300.  Good luck to everyone who enters!

Pay it Forward style weekly prize from "Heroes of Armageddon" for week 13

This week's prize is astounding for a completely different reason than the masses of prizes from the past couple weeks.  The reason? It has been donated by Joel Jameson who actually won the Blood Angel Terminator painted by Simon Modrow, in almost a "Pay it Forward" kinda style.  Suitable, no? (Pay it Forward is now maintained by MWC but was another genius idea started by the brilliant folks at Santa Cruz Warhammer). Third month of weekly prizes from "Heroes of Armageddon" starts now

Wow time is really flying - into the third month of "Heroes of Armageddon" already!  If you haven't seen this week's prize post yet - here are some details.  Victoria of Victoria Miniatures (vickis minis? ;-) )has kindly donated three prizes to the charity project to raffle away this week.  Some special kilted legs, some halfling cowboys and my favourite - the spanish inquisition (all that's missing is the comfy chair!)

Week 8 prize from "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project

Final weekly prize for the second month of the "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project has been posted.  This week it's a unit of chemsoldiers (who would make great IG stand-in's) from a company called Troll Forged Miniatures. I pulled some info from the HoA site about them and they sound really cool.  I will definitely be checking them out as we should all try to support budding sculptors since they provide us the toys we all love.

Troll Forged is a community of amateur sculptors who all post their work on their own forum. Readers can comment on the sculpts, after which the best ones get molded and cast. They are put up for sale on their store and each sale gives the sculptor a commission, which never ends. In this way sculptors can keep reinvesting time and money to get better and keep at it.

Once again I have donated $20 to the cause, racking up a total of $160 so far.  It's pretty easy to scrounge up $20 to donate, just consider the money you might spend on coffee or smokes or drinks.  In some bars or clubs skipping two drinks could provide you $20 to donate.

What a prize up for grabs this week.  This stunningly converted & painted figure has been kindly donated to the "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project by Simon Modrow - an obviously very talented individual from Germany. Check out his stunning gallery of photos.

Funnily enough, he's armed exactly as Mordaci Blaylock - a special character from FW IA9: Badab who I have modeled & painted for my Novamarines.

6th week of "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project prizes!

Something a little different up for grabs this week from the "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project - a couple CMON 2009 Annuals have been donated for prizes. I tend not to bother posting my mini's on CMON as I am well aware they are basically tabletop quality - I usually aim for special methods(eg. staining) to make tabletop quality quicker to achieve over a larger quantity of models than a great model.  However I will admit that every blogger of whose painting I am jealous seems to have already purchased a copy of the annual.

This is another great thing about these charity projects - the community support.  A lot of the miniatures for the armies themselves are donated and stuff that can't be used is put up as weekly giveaways.  The way the community bands together for these type of things is just extraordinary!

I've donated another $20 to the cause - breaking the $100 mark!  It's amazing how quickly it builds up.  As described in my last HoA pimp post - it really doesn't take much to scrounge up $20 you could throw towards this - and who knows, you could end up winning one of the weekly prizes or even one of the FOUR completely custom built & painted armies based on the war of armageddon.

Fourth weekly prize announced for "Heroes of Armageddon"

Up for grabs this week from the "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project is a bunch of very cool resin ork bits and pieces from Kromlech.eu - everything I have seen from them is truly top notch, there's some really incredibly high quality stuff such as the jetbike and all these orky bits.  If I happened to win this weeks prize I could see myself having to start playing Gorkamorka!  You can check out this weeks prize post here.

As per usual I have donated $20 and have updated my running tally. Truly it doesn't take much to make a difference and you'd be surprised at how little it will impact you.  For example I quit smoking (again..  hopefully for keeps this time!) in January.  I estimate I probably spent at least $50 a week on smokes - this is less than half that - if I could afford more than twice what I've donated weekly to poison myself, I can definitely afford this.

Or here's another example.  I used to buy my lunch at the mall every day at work - that's an average of $10-15 a day.  Now I bring my lunch 3 days a week (unrelated - more about getting healthy than finding the $$ to donate) which probably costs about the same as one purchased lunch. Again when you consider how much you spend on stuff without thinking about it during the week finding this small amount isn't tough at all!

I challenge every one of you to consider superfluous things you spend money on - I'm not saying donate $20 every week like me - but I bet every single one of you could easily find $20 to donate without really giving up very much.  I personally spend about $3-4 a day on coffee, that in itself would be $20 for 5 days. Some folks who drink fancy coffees from places like Starbucks spend almost as much on a coffee as a meal.  Ask yourself if you can give up your specialty coffee for a week in order to help out Doctors without Borders.

"Heroes of Armageddon" charity project third weekly prize posted!

"Heroes of Armageddon" keeps growing and growing! This time around there are three options for the weekly prize.  Whoever the lucky name pulled from the hat is will get the option of picking one of these three great prizes - all offered by TableTop Fix. Either a Blood Angels battleforce, an Ork Stompa or an Imperial Shadow Sword - some pretty sweet prizes.

The Heroes of Armageddon charity project is truckin' along.  Week two and a new weekly prize has been listed.  This time around there are TWO $25 gift certificates to Secret Weapon Miniatures. Justin was a huge part of the success of the Storm Wardens project last year - he donated all the bases for the entire project as well as further prize support.

First "Heroes of Armageddon" charity project prize up for grabs!

If you haven't heard of this latest charity project by the super guys who ran the amazingly successful Storm Wardens project - where have you been living - under a rock?

Anyways with that out of the way - it's time for me to start pimpin' because the first prizes have been announced (just like last time, throughout the entire project awesome prizes will be given away) and first up are some METAL 12x16 prints of the project artwork.  This prize definitely hits close to home - you may have seen the awesome piece of art my partner had made for me for my birthday based on one of my own models.  How cool would it be to have a print of the amazing piece of art created to launch this project???

Last time around (storm wardens) I made a single big donation and pimped it maybe once on the blog - and the guys managed to raise over $16K for Doctors without Borders.  This time around I've decided every new prize announcement will be met with a $20 donation commitment and a pimpin' blog post.  Before the end of the project I will donate that amount (to try and avoid as much paypal fees as possible) donate enough to cover the fees dinged by paypal.  I will track my commitment donation total in the box to the right with the link to the project where you can find more information.

A GREAT CAUSE

Another quick post before I head away for the weekend, I waited a bit before posting so I can say my donation is in (payday was thursday) I may still donate more depending on my finances before the drawing.  The earlier you donate the better as they are having tons of mini-raffles for other great loot!

Wanted to promote the Storm Wardens - Collaborative Army Build Charity Drawing. What a brilliant idea this is, these guys are going to make a certain individual very happy and in the process raise a ton of funds to donate to Doctors without Borders.
