even more Space Hulk Terminator goodness...

Here is one of several things I've had on the go in the past little while.  These will get sent along to Ricalope to get painted up along with the 2 dreadnoughts I'd posted previously and 6 more jump pack death company.  That will fill up a KR multicase box (1 of 3 planned) and will hopefully mean I get these guys back this year.

These 3 will round out the 2 painted "assault" terminators to give me a full squad.

Here's my cyclone missile launcher conversion, so I have all heavy options.  He can easily proxy as either an additional heavy flamer or assault cannon in Space Hulk.

I decided to build this guy as a captain for Space Hulk purposes. He's armed with storm bolter, power fist, power sword and an auxiliary grenade launcher.  I gave him the iron halo and some extra detailing as well to make him look special.

Here's my chaplain conversion.  I wanted one of every character type in terminator armour and basing them on Space Hulk terminators would ensure they fit in well.  His crozius arcanum is from an old dreadnought banner pole.

Finally the sanguinary priest, armed with a power sword and with a narthecium conversion based on the chainfist model.  I added a small screw bit, as well as using some metal pieces to fill in a tube from the rhino smoke launchers to create a needle.

and they will be joining their brethren soon...  can't wait to have my Space Hulk termies back to play some games!  Had a game recently against my brother and filled in with some Novamarines but am really looking forward to playing with these guys.

Finally finished something...

all three together - initial one (3) on left and latest two (6, 9) on the right
Sweet!!  A combination of seeing G.N.O.M.E.s painted space shark rhinos and being put to shame by Ricalope has spurred me to finish my second and third magnetized rhino chassis to complete something and gain a huge 20 painting points.  Fortunately they were pretty much 90% done, so it didn't take too much effort.  A few decals needed to be applied, the teeth and decal areas fixed up and the banners for the rhino doors completed.  You may notice I used my second TLLC razorback turret on the original chassis (#3).

chassis 6 configured as a predator
This is probably the first time I took some close ups of the additional magnetized bits.  They have been painted for a while but until I finished the chassis I wasn't too chuffed about showing off just a predator sponson.  Up next I want to build a couple LasPlas turrets, do a proper heavy bolter turret (I have one I hacked together similar to but not as nice as the TLLC) and I have another predator turret (need another set of sponsons) and I also have a couple whirlwind turrets.

chassis 9 configured as a vindicator with extra armour
I am still on the fence about whether they should be worth some painting points, especially the vindicator bits since they are almost 3 sides of a rhino.  I still have more bits to paint, a dozer blade that is half done, I obviously need more "blank" hatches, more searchlights and H/K missiles.  Since I am on the fence I will wait before awarding anything other than the 10 painting points for each chassis, and it let me post about it sooner rather than later :)

Landspeeder Storm + magnetized riders (TFP entry #3)

While gearing up for Astronomi-con, I needed a couple more bolter scouts to save some cash I magnetized the landspeeder storm riders. I was hoping to get a second missile launcher armed squad but ended up without enough points for the list, but I had already built him. Took some monumental effort to paint another Novamarine so soon after painting huge batches of them, but just for TFP I made it happen so I could enter this squad to the competition.

I dunno if it was the best plan but I thought of the missile launcher armed scout hiding behind a little tree - it goes pretty well with the crawling scout below.
missile launcher - close up
Also for the guy who was hanging off the side, since I magnetized his hand, I took a melta bomb and magnetized the bottom - he could now easily be a sergeant.  Aka the dancing scout.
jumping down - close up
Here are the two seated scouts.  One I put on a stump and the other on a pile of logs.  Everyone loves the guy sitting on the logs.
bolters - chillin'
So that's a total of four scouts, 3 bolters and a missile launcher.  I put some extra effort into the base for the storm since I picked up some water effects.  It actually turned out pretty well, though I'm not sure if it was adding wash or paint to the mix or the dryness of the house but it cracked a lot as it dried.

I ended up fixing this sergeant up.  Being armed with a combi-weapon and a chainsword was pretty silly so I just gave him a bolt pistol in his other hand.  I think he would definitely make a useful sergeant for this squad.  But he was painted before the competition started, same the the crawling scout I just wanted you guys to see them.
older models updated
These are the two guys I used to bulk out the squad (since I didn't use the missile launcher at all) so I would ask you to base the judgement of the squad on these guys even though I think the other two are cooler.  I was originally going to build one more bolter armed guy with a cloak and then the storm riders could count as either with or without since theirs are rolled up - but I think I will probably just go back and add cloaks to these guys when I can stand to paint more Novamarines.
simple bolter guys
Hope you guys enjoyed this - they were definitely fun to model and paint.

more Novamarine terminators (aka Entry #2 to TFP "Squad" competition)

Here is my second entry to The Fallen Princes "Squad" theme painting competition. I was very lucky that the theme this time around was squads just as I was having to paint up a bunch of guys for Astronomi-con (see final touches, recap, bonus pics) so the whole time getting ready for the tournament I knew I was going to need to post some more pics and more in depth for the TFP comp.
terminator squad 2
This now gives me a total of 11 tactical terminators for my Novamarines (hoping to add one more to get an assault cannon in there) I have assault terminators too but ended up dropping them from the tournament list.
showing off the power sword
Cyclone Missile Launchers are definitely the best heavy weapon terminators can carry right now IMO, so I wanted my 10 man squad to have two.  I added the IG Sentinel bit to one of my older terminators but this one was built with it to begin with.
Cyclone Missile Launcher close up (IG Sentinel bit)
The other key figure was the sergeant.  I was just using AoBR terminators, so to bump the squad up to 10 I had to beg an extra power fist from my buddy Mike (he placed 3rd at Astro btw).  As you all know I love magnets I decided to magnetize the arm so he could still wield a power sword and be two separate units.
power sword - right side
Before the tournament, I didn't have time to paint the power sword arm.  I just focused on getting them ready as needed, so all I painted was the power fist.  It's incredible I could even bother to paint more blue & bone, but for the squad competition I needed a sergeant and one arm didn't seem like too much effort.
power fist - sorry for crappy pic
I was debating how I was going to paint the power sword for a while until I found this two part tutorial on Dark Future Games (simple & effective power weapons - part 1 / part 2).  The only change I made was I used a different colour as the base - it's a P3 paint called coal black which has some blue tone to it.  I really like the way this sword came out.
power sword - left side
It's kinda funny how every power weapon across all my armies are painted differently. Anyways this is my entry, there is still a month left so you have time to enter yourself! I still have one more unit from my Novamarines who I will be entering and then we'll see whether I get anything else painted by then.  You can check out my first entry here.

Badab War characters competition WIP pt1

Here is a couple quick pics of one of the models I plan to enter in this competition. I originally built this guy just so I could tie my Raptors in with my other chapters. Once I saw the competition details I started to think about modifying him so he could be submitted.  Here he is as originally built, way back in January - but with some partial paint in the same style as the Raptor Legion Chaplain I finished as my first painting point in 2011.
Raptor Legion deathwatch marine
Here you can see I've magnetized a hand flamer from the new death company box to attach to the underside of his bolter so he can count as "Sternguard Sergeant Laufrey". I need to figure out if I really need to add the "chain attachment" or not.  Also got me thinking maybe I should do a melta attachment from an infernus pistol, might as well right?!? ;)

Space Sharks: Terminators

This is something I hadn't planned on getting yet, but ended up picking up from someone mostly complete.  The trade started about something completely different, but I ended up picking up these guys and a terminator chaplain.  A squad of magnetized termies!  Having a bit of fun here with crazy weapon combinations.  I knew immediately they should be my Space Sharks terminators with Badab camo scheme and shark's tooth trophies, since I only planned to have 2 veteran squads, one in power armour and one in terminator armour.  It made sense for them to be magnetized as much of the rest of the army is.  I have 3 of the Chapterhouse Studios combi-weapon magnetic kits for the other 5 power armour veterans I have to build.

There's practically every weapon option, so many I need a bunch of blank terminator pads.  I've gone through and painted a different colour for each models arms.  Before I prime them I will use some masking liquid to cover them up.  I've found it very handy for that type of thing.  Unfortunately these guys are pretty low priority on the painting list, and will definitely have to wait until I've built the other 5 hammerheads/sternguard to paint.

Space Hulk Terminators update

OK here's a nice healthy update with lots of pics - I admit the pics aren't the greatest and are just a single shot of each guy facing you so sometimes the details are hidden, but I promise once these guys are painted (not by me, similar to the Genestealers I'm going to find someone to paint my Flesh Tearers - I have too much backed up to be painted already and want them ready now!) I will take proper photos with multiple angles to really show them off.  They have all had a Flesh Tearers brass etch symbol on their shoulderpads and other pieces from the fw brass etch sheet are on there as well.  For their bases I have added detail on parts of the base but left the rest bare, mostly to make it easy for putting the bases on and off (oh wait did you think they weren't magnetized - hahahhaha) so I'm hoping that with the right kind of paint job, it can seem as if the area around the model is really dark & gloomy.  That's the dream anyways!  I even made some magnetized bases for the C.A.T. and Chalice. Comments and criticism welcome.

Let's start with the heavies shall we?

Bringing back an old favourite... Necromunda!

A few items in this post.  First I'm glad to have found something to inspire me to start modeling and painting again.  I hope this is just the beginning, and have even taken the step of ordering some stuff from Forge World thinking about some other projects.  This year so far has nearly been a write off in terms of non-gaming hobby, but I have some time to change that before the year is out.

For a while now, I've been wanting to get a Necromunda campaign going across more than one hobby store, as there are many within a reasonable distance in the GTA.  I will post some more specific posts about this, but so far I've put together some simple rules to try and keep players interested and motivated to play.  The goal is more narrative than competitive.  I think we are going to use mybattalion.com to organize games and post content.  If you are around the GTA and this sounds interesting please get in touch.

It was this that sparked my motivation to get some hours put into my Pit Slave gang.  I will probably lend my Spyrers to my brother - and my Escher are actually being painted in trade for some sentinels (they might be ready in time for the campaign) so just in case I thought I should start modeling a gang myself.  I still might do something crazy like run a Wyrd Coven gang and save these guys for some big showdown battle at the end of the campaign.  The best part about these guys is I'm going to use them as servitors as well for my 40K gaming, hence all the magnetization.  I have a good 13 bodies and have already built 25 different arms.  The best part is this is probably the easiest gang/model to build upon.  This way I can keep making various armaments and I can always throw some technological bits onto various models to make more bodies.

These are my four actual pit slave models.
I've simply glued a magnet on their arm socket and puttied over it.

Here are four goliath plastics with a single magnet each.
The two on the left have cheap pistols since I figure I will always want some pit slaves with a simple pistol/pit slave weapon.  Third from the left could be a cheap cutting torch or a regrafter for a techno.  The final guy was the prompting for this gang when I was wanting some servitors.

Four more goliath plastics with both arms magnetized.
With both arms able to take pit slave weapons, I can use a couple of these guys as my pit fighters and still use the other guys with one pit slave weapon and some other armaments.

Finally the leader with all the arm options built so far.
Basic; autogun, boltgun, lasgun, shotgun
Pistols; autopistol, boltpistol, laspistol
Pit Slave Weapons; buzzsaw, chainsaw X4, claw, hammer X2, regrafter, rock drill X2, shears X3
Special; grenade launcher, plasmagun X2, meltagun
I want to balance out the options a bit more for the left side.  I still need some arms with swords, some stub guns, maybe a flamer or hand flamer, another melta/multi-melta, definitely another claw and a buzzsaw.
