"The Cure For What Ails You"

I would like to point your weasel-y noses (no, not THIS type of weasley) at a contest David (Laughing Ferret) is running to celebrate 200K hits and nearing 300 followers (congrats!).

Lasting 11 days, with 11 options for prizes - I dearly hope to score the dwarf referee who would match my Karak-Nhati Bengals blood bowl team (painted by David - see his post here) very well and whose post conveniently satisfies option #3 for an extra point!

Well, even though I haven't had time to post about it - that doesn't mean that Ric hasn't been hard at work!

Three updates have gone by since my last post about the terminators - time to pimp them a bit!  I have just included a single pic, but each "heading" is a link to his full blog post with multiple pics.

Deathwatch Apothecary

This guy comes with four different right arms (so far!); chain axe, hand flamer, infernus pistol, power fist and both a normal apothecary backpack and a jump pack.  This is beneficial both for my Flesh Tearers army and for games of Deathwatch (which we are supposed to do not this weekend or the next but the one after!)

For my Space Hulk objectives I mounted them all on square bases.  I also glued a magnet onto the arm of the  throne so the magnet in the cup would allow the cup to stick to this objective.

The original five were the first things Ric painted, and just had 4 bolt pistol/ccw marines plus the power fist sergeant - now they are ready to blow up a vehicle first and then tear the occupants to shreds! The hazard stripes really make these guys pop!

Huge thanks to Ric!  He has shipped over the deathwatch apothecary so I can use him for RPGs, but the rest he's going to hold off shipping until we have found/purchased and settled in a house!  He plans to work on a Land Raider: Crusader next - looking forward to it!!!

Minis painted by others.. (for others to come later)

Well I realized I hadn't posted something in a while.  Here is a harlequin that a very kind person has been painting for me to add to my Spire Brat Pack necromunda gang. There might be some minor differences when it arrives, as I believe he's repainted the symbol on his head (as per the video in this post of his) check out Mikes CMON submissions and you will understand why I was ecstatic to find out he was willing to paint a fig for me and why I am not surprised in the slightest at the amazing quality he has produced!!!

There are a few other kindly folks out there who are either currently painting a harlequin for me, or they at least have one in their possession.  In case you haven't seen any of my earlier posts about this gang, the idea is since they all dress wildly - to have different people paint each figure so they all look drastically different.

There is also another gentleman who has agreed to paint a harlequin, but I am waiting until after my trip to the Chaos Cup to mail him anything to try and pick up some swag for his young lad currently learning (and apparently addicted to) blood bowl.

I need to sort out a very standard and easy to reproduce base scheme which is how I plan to tie all the disparate models together into some form of cohesion.  Currently I am thinking about gathering a ton of little bits, spraying them a metallic colour and giving them some heavy washes of orange and brown to look really rusty, then using that to "flock" the base with - thoughts?

Added to the two harlequins I already have, this will definitely be enough for a game!  I still have several more so if you are interested in getting in on this project, please contact me through the email address in my blogger profile and I would be happy to mail you a harlequin!

Space Hulk - first "squad" done

Well, due to finishing up a couple Space Shark rhino chassis over the weekend I don't feel too bad about Ric pumping out ANOTHER Flesh Tearers update. The latest two include a standard tactical terminator and the assault cannon armed heavy as well.  This is the third terminator update, the first one had a single terminator, the second had the thunder hammer/storm shield and the chainfist. However I would definitely recommend you check out Rics update because...

He's recently built himself a nice lightbox, so his pictures are much nicer and how off a lot more detail.  I'm not sure I would've been able to see the faded hazard stripes he put on these bases (which I think will blend in perfectly with the champs industries bases used for the guys in power armour)

As usual the OSL on all the power weapons is fantastic and I love the attention to detail, these guys are shaping up great, Ric has already received the second box of stuff from me (death company, a second LR Crusader and the rest of the assault squad) and I hope to get him a final box a bit later this year.

Wow, I really need to get something painted!!!

Wow, I really need to get something painted - Ric is kicking my ass!  Here's an update post he's done with more pics of the next few pieces he's finished painting. He's finished up a couple more of my converted Space Hulk Terminators.  Gotta say they look pretty BOSS! His painting style is simple but extremely effective.  My hat's off to Ric he's doing a great job on these guys - and quickly too! So much so I've gotten a second package of Flesh Tearers ready to be shipped out.

I have a couple things on the painting table right now, but I think I am going to have to pull out the two space shark rhinos that are 95% done just so I can finish something and have a post which is about models that I ACTUALLY PAINTED.  There hasn't been any posts about my figs since JUNE!

more Flesh Tearers progress (Space Hulk termies)

Ric is a painting machine! He's made some progress on a few of the Space Hulk terminators I converted for my Flesh Tearers.  The conversions, brass etch and Flesh Tearer paint job should ensure NOBODY has Space Hulk termies like mine! :)  Can't wait to be able to play Space Hulk with a fully painted set!

I am really loving the limited palette being used.  The miniatures definitely pop for me.  Plus who can complain about some OSL effects and some stripe details (check out the slash on the hip armour - neat!).  I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the Land Raider as well as the terminator librarian.  Liking them so much I have been trying to source another copy of Space Hulk that won't cost me my firstborn son.  If anyone is looking to get rid of one for a reasonable price please get in touch.

For the past couple days I have been assembling the other half of the assault squad he's painted so far as well as 10 death company.  For the death company I've decided to stick with the Flesh Tearers scheme, with white crosses.  They will also all be bare headed.  I'm hoping that in combination with the blingy death company armour they will stand out as I didn't want to follow the standard "all black" death company scheme.  The plan is to get Ric more models to paint sooner rather than later!

Flesh Tearers - rapid progress!

So apparently Ric paints really fast, he did say the scheme is easy but damn!  He's posted a bunch of pics of the first basic assault squad I sent over to get his users comments - so if you have any please post them over there! First pic here is his example of matching the genestealers base colours (bases are from Champ Industries) and I think they look perfect!

Second pic, is the little OSL effect he put on the power fist, which I think looks pretty tight.  Also, while I added the sawblade to the bolt pistol, he prettied it up with some the brass etch details I included and I must say the bolt pistol looks really cool!

Final pic is a test of the hazard stripes - which look amazing, definitely appreciate the look it gives.  I've asked him to try and do a little blood splatter/gore effect on the chain weapons too so am looking forward to seeing that.

All in all this is getting me really excited about this army so I need to ramp up my construction so he has more stuff to paint.  Really looking forward to seeing what he does with the terminators from Space Hulk.  Thanks Ric!

nearly a year and a half later (532 days to be precise)

Way back in January of 2010 I wrote about my commissioned space hulk genestealers, and mentioned receiving them back had spurred me towards completing my space hulk terminators about whom I've posted exactly twice (post 1 / post 2) and who I nearly completed all the Flesh Tearer conversions within a year (I would say they were about 95% done in post 2).  I've had to go back and edit the phrase "more on this soon" to "more on this much much later". LOL

Well I finally found a commission painter that I was comfortable with and I have mailed them to Ric @ Ricalopia for painting.  In addition to the space hulk termies, there is also a land raider crusader for them to cruise around in, a 5 man jump pack assault squad and a couple sanguinary priests (the magnetized one is a deathwatch marine)

If you have any comments about the painting or anything, please be sure to let Ric know HERE. I would also highly recommend checking out the rest of his blog.  He is a truly talented dude.  He's had the box less than a day and already sent me some pics.  It's getting me excited about possibly having a fully painted army for a relatively new codex!  Next batch I'd like to round out the assault squad, a death company squad, a storm raven, a dc dread and seth.

He's begun on the assault marines to work out the scheme.  I asked for details like eyes/power weapons to use a similar blue colour to the cables and misc bits on the dead terminators on my space hulk genestealers.

There will most definitely be lots of chain weapons for these guys, I have tried to take the time to remove any "chaos-y" looking arrows (you can kinda see where it was removed in this photo) but as long as it doesn't resemble an arrow I've not bothered (ie. as on the ends of the axe blade)

All of the standard power armour marines are going to be on these custom plastic bases from Champ Industries.  These are the "Industrial" design (they may only have two "styles" but I LOVE the fact they are injected plastic, so plastic cement is all you need to secure your plastic minis to them.

EDIT: This is also another chapter added to my list of crusade armies.  As mentioned one of the Sanguinary Priests is a deathwatch model.

Necromunda Escher gang - commission received!

I just received delivery today of my necromunda Escher gang that I had farmed out to a local painter (My buddy  @ http://scipunk.webs.com - HIGHLY recommended.  Excellent value)  I was using them quite frequently unpainted, but necromunda had to take a backseat for a while as other things were afoot.  I figured it was a good time to have them painted.  I would rather farm out some little projects instead of just having tons of unpainted mini's sitting around.  I now have several options for playing necromunda, so I am thinking about what's on deck in the "farm out painting" queue.

I will get some better pictures in the near future, once I am setup to edit them.  Until then I just grabbed this quick group shot.  20 miniatures, a good mix of armaments - I don't think there's anything else to add to this gang.  I even converted a leader model to be carrying a meltagun in case I want to spend big on my initial gang (and just to make my opponents FEAR her - hehe).  This gives me three fully painted necromunda gangs, time to get playing again!

Commissionned Dark Elf blood bowl team.

I just wanted to quickly post up some pics of my Dark Elf blood bowl team (the Karond Kar Raiders) who've been painted up by my friend Thomas who games at Two Headed Dragon. I like how they aren't your typical black dark elves but are still obviously evil.
I will likely bring these guys to the next NAF blood bowl tournament I go to, giving me lots of time to get a team painted for the one after that! LOL
Still have a couple star players I decided to put together at the last second, but they won't be critical so no rush. Also check out the two conversions I made for my other blitzers (one is a cold one rider whose legs I pinned into a running pose, the other is an old Melnibonean model whose head I replaced with a cold one knight's head.

My first commission...

... purchased. HA! I don't have enough hobby time for me, let alone anyone else.

For that reason, I've started farming out little projects. I've got a blood bowl team with a friend I met at Two Headed Dragon, and I also wanted to get my Space Hulk stuff done. I just got the genestealers back from the painter and I quite like them. They've motivated me to get to work on the terminators, as I'm converting them somewhat (remove some BA icons, GS) so I can have them painted up as Flesh Tearers. More on this soon. Should've said more on this much, much later.
